Spike
Photo was taken by Skipper Productions during the finals of the 2002 USDAA Grand Prix Finals. He is pictured here sporting his "pony cut"... mane and tail.
Spike was (supposedly) a mini poodle / springer spaniel cross. He measured 12" at the withers and weighed about 12 pounds.
Spike came into my life in January of '94 at about 11 weeks old. He was VERY intelligent, learned fast, and wanted to be right. He was SO easy to train!
We started agility classes with the local agility club, Canine Combustion, and loved every minute of it!
His competition career was stalled a bit in 1995 to have patella surgery to stabilize his right knee.
His agility accomplishments were:
1996 - USDAA AD
1997 - USDAA AAD
1998 - USDAA Top Ten in all Four Categories - 12"
1999 - USDAA MAD, USDAA Top Ten in Standard
2000 - USDAA ADCH, USDAA Top Ten in Standard
2001 - USDAA Top Ten in Standard and Snooker
2002 - NADAC NATCH, AMBOR Agility 12" Champion, USDAA Grand Prix of Dog Agility Finalist and 7th place
Spike died in January of 2003, at 9 1/4 years old, after battling bladder cancer for about 8 months. While 2002 was a hard year while undergoing chemotherapy and giving his immune system a rest between treatments, Spike had a very successful agility year.
He was an amazing little boy.
